Omnia Vanitas Patch
Omnia Vanitas Patch
The symbolism of this patch is thus: The skull a reminder of our mortality (Memento Mori) and crown on the skull, the foolishness of vanity in all its forms. The checkerboard background reflects the constant battle between good and evil. The winged hourglass ("Tempus Fugit") crest reflects the fact that time is fleeting and that you must do all the good that you can do while you still have the chance. "Omnia Vanitas" is the motto and is abbreviated from Ecclesiastes 1:2 "Vanitas vanitatum dixit Ecclesiastes omnia vanitas" meaning, "vanity of vanities says the Preacher, all is vanity."
The point of this patch is not to judge anyone who is materialistic or vain but to serve as a reminder to ourselves that while we may enjoy the possessions we own, we don't let them own us.
"If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough.
Worship your body and beauty and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you.
Worship power, you will end up feeling weak and afraid, and you will need ever more power over others to numb you to your own fear.
Worship your intellect, being seen as smart, you will end up feeling stupid, a fraud, always on the verge of being found out.
Instead, worship God and serve others and you will feel instantly fulfilled and the more you do it, the more fulfilled you will be." -Paraphrased from David Wallace Foster, "This is Water"
"Live your life. Don’t waste your days on the negative energy of others. Remember that you’re not your salary. You’re not your house. You’re not your car. And no matter how big your bank account is, your grave is six feet under just like everyone else’s. So enjoy the days you have. Worry not about the days that came before you. Nor the ones that will follow you in death. Remember that right here in this moment is all you are guaranteed, and the fact that you are living is what life is all about. So live your life to the fullest, according to your happiness and the betterment of all."- God from Logic's "AfricAryan" from Everybody album. Voice of Neil Degras Tyson.
